  2. Except something cannot be illegibly perplexing. That implies that the MANNER in which something perplexes you is illegible as opposed to that SOMETHING being illegible in itself. Illegibly must be changed from its adverb form to its adjective form, illegible. This does not affect the n+1 sentence pattern.
