How are you building your life?

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by.
The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end his career.
When the carpenter finished his work and the builder came to inspect the house, the contractor handed the front-door key to the carpenter. “This is your house,” he said, “my gift to you.”
What a shock! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built none too well.

So it is with us. We build our lives in a distracted way, reacting rather than acting, willing to put up less than the best. At important points we do not give the job our best effort.
Then with a shock we look at the situation we have created and find that we are now living in the house we have built. If we had realized, we would have done it differently. Think of yourself as the carpenter. Think about your house. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Build wisely. It is the only life you will ever build. Even if you live it for only one day more, that day deserves to be lived graciously and with dignity. The plaque on the wall says, “Life is a do-it-yourself project.” Who could say it more clearly? Your life today is the result of your attitudes and choices in the past. Your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and the choices you make today.

Things are not always as they appear

There was once a man who was ship-wrecked and stranded on an island. Every day he prayed asking God to send someone to rescue him, but to his disappointment, no one ever came.

Months passed and this man learned how to survive on the island. During this time, he accumulated things from the island and stored them in a hut that he constructed. One day after hunting for food and returning back to his hut, much to his dismay he saw that his hut was on fire along with everything else he owned!
All of his possessions were going up in smoke! The only thing he had left were the clothes on his back. Initially he was in shock, and then he was consumed with anger and rage!

In his fury he threw a fist into the air and began cursing God and yelling, “God, how could you let this happen to me? I’ve been praying everyday for months about being rescued and no one has come, and now everything that I have is on fire! How could you do to this to me! Why did you let this happen?”

Later the man was on his hands and knees weeping heavily when he happened to look up and catch sight of a ship coming in his direction. The man was rescued and as they were heading back to civilization the man asked the captain, “How were you able to find me?”

The captain responded, “We were voyaging across the ocean when we noticed on the horizon a column of smoke going up. We decided to go check it out and when we did, that’s when we found you!”

In life we are going to be confronted with challenges, problems, and disasters. But keep in mind that what the devil has meant for bad, God can transform into your good! What is a catastrophe can sometimes be a blessing in disguise. “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” Psalms 34:17-19

Anger and love have no limits

While a man was polishing his new car, his 4 year old son picked a stone and scratched lines on the side of car. In anger the man took the child's hand and hit it many times, not realizing he was using a wrench. At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures. When the child his saw his father..... With painful eyes he asked ' dad when will my fingers grow back?' man was so hurt and speechless . He went back to car and kicked it many times. Devastated by his own actions... Sitting in front the car he looked at the scratches, child had written " LOVE YOU DAD" next day that father committed suicide......

Anger and love have no limits...... Always remember that- things are to be used and people are to be loved , but the problem in today's world is that, people are used things are loved.

Funny short stories - Hilarious

The child and his mother:

A curious child asked his mother: “Mommy, why are some of your hairs turning grey?”
The mother tried to use this occasion to teach her child: “It is because of you, dear. Every bad action of yours will turn one of my hairs grey!”
The child replied innocently: “Now I know why grandmother has only grey hairs on her head.”

Wrong email address:

A couple going on vacation but his wife was on a business trip so he went to the destination first and his wife would meet him the next day.
When he reached his hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick email.
Unfortunately, when typing her address, he mistyped a letter and his note was directed instead to an elderly preacher’s wife whose husband had passed away only the day before.
When the grieving widow checked her email, she took one look at the monitor, let out a piercing scream, and fell to the floor in a dead faint.
At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen:
Dearest Wife,
Just got checked in. Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow.
P.S. Sure is hot down here.

Will’s experience at the airport:

After his return from Rome, Will couldn’t find his luggage in the airport baggage area. He went to the lost luggage office and told the woman there that his bags hadn’t shown up on the carousel.
She smiled and told him not to worry because they were trained professionals and he was in good hands.
Then she asked Will, “Has your plane arrived yet?”

One day, the officer was amazed when everyone was under the speed limit, so he investigated and found the problem.
A 10 years old boy was standing on the side of the road with a huge hand painted sign which said “Radar Trap Ahead.”
A little more investigative work led the officer to the boy’s accomplice: another boy about 100 yards beyond the radar trap with a sign reading “TIPS” and a bucket at his feet full of change.

Best answer in college got A+

A college class was told they had to write a short story in as few words as possible.

The instructions were:

The short story should contain the following three things:

1) Religion
2) Sexuality
3) Mystery

Below is the only A+ short story in the entire class.

"Good God, I'm pregnant; I wonder who did it."

The goldfish bowl – cute!

Have you ever been saved from embarrassment by a kindly soul who absorbs the ridicule? These are the kind of people who are friends for life. Check this story out.

There is a nine-year-old kid sitting at his desk and all of a sudden, there is a puddle between his feet and the front of his pants are wet. He thinks his heart is going to stop because he cannot possibly imagine how this has happened.
It’s never happened before, and he knows that when the boys find out he will never hear the end of it. When the girls find out, they’ll never speak to him again as long as he lives.
The boy believes his heart is going to stop, he puts his head down and prays — “Dear God, this is an emergency! I need help now! Five minutes from now I’m dead meat.”
He looks up from his prayer and here comes the teacher with a look in her eyes that says he has been discovered.
As the teacher is walking toward him, a classmate named Susie is carrying a goldfish bowl that is filled with water. Susie trips in front of the teacher and inexplicably dumps the bowl of water in the boy’s lap.
The boy pretends to be angry, but all the while is saying to himself, “Thank you, Lord! Thank you, Lord!”
Now all of a sudden, instead of being the object of ridicule, the boy is the object of sympathy. The teacher rushes him downstairs and gives him gym shorts to put on while his pants dry out. All the other children are on their hands and knees cleaning up around his desk. The sympathy is wonderful. But as life would have it, the ridicule that should have been his has been transferred to someone else – Susie.
She tries to help, but they tell her to get out. “You’ve done enough, you klutz!” Finally, at the end of the day, as they are waiting for the bus, the boy walks over to Susie and whispers, “You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”
Susie whispers back, “I wet my pants once too.”
May God help us see the opportunities that are always around us to do good.

Employment miracle

Are you having trouble finding a job? Don’t give up! Gabriel graduated but couldn’t find a job for over a year. Follow his story below to find out what valuable advices he received from his mother and what miracles he received.

Gabriel left his seat and walked the length of his room pondering over what to do about his unemployment status. He’s been at home now for a year after graduating last February and has not been able to apply for the many job vacancies he had come across because their requirements were rather too high.
He has no work experience yet but a majority of the adverts demanded a minimum of 3 years. ‘Will I ever gain employment?’ was a disturbing question hidden down within his soul.

He’s been studying an advert for a ‘customer service officer’ at a telecom company but the job specification was bizarre; ‘5 years work experience; 35 to 45 age range; masters is an added advantage’ and so on.
He had managed part of his father’s business while he was still alive and was quite good at helping out confused customers to access the services they needed. How was he going to communicate that in his cover letter as work experience? He’s 24 and only has a first degree. Different thoughts ran through his mind prompting him to tell lies. Returning to his seat, he was going to fabricate lies as advised by a colleague to construct a cover letter that would meet all the requirement, but just when he was going to press the keyboard, his conscience smote him, reminding him that the biblical Joseph did not refuse to yield to Potiphar’s wife because he respected her husband rather because he feared to sin against God.

As he sat reading through other job adverts, his mother walked in. “Hey baby, you look depressed” she said, pulling a seat next to him. “Gab, never give up; don’t you ever stop applying; keep on at it until there be no more adverts. Only yield not to temptation for I can say assuredly that just as Mordecia was remembered by the King, even so will God put in the heart of an employer to remember you.”

“Mum, I found a vacancy that suits my experience but the academic qualification and years of experience demanded are too high.”

“No baby, they ain’t high; it’s a thing of the mind. Change your mind set. You know what? Applying for such positions give employers the impression that one is courageous and that’s a plus in itself. It tells them you would dare to take on herculean tasks. So go ahead and apply. Never go for job offers that meet all your qualifications for such are low paying, less innovative nor satisfying rather, go for the big fish.”
After much encouragement, Gabriel applied for the position and three weeks later while he washed his mother’s car, his phone vibrated when a text message found it.

“Hello Gabriel? You are being invited for an interview for the position you applied for at ADSE telecommunications this Thursday. Check your email for more info but please confirm you will be coming.”
On reading that, he developed mixed feelings. This is the first time he’s been invited for an interview but then when he thought of his chances, his heart died. Ceasing from washing, he went inside to show his mum the text.

“Baby, I can read your mind; the fears, doubts, anxiety etc but all that are not necessary. Guess what your first step should be?”
“I don’t know, mum.”
“Confirm that you will be there,” she said looking into his eyes.
“Mum!!!”
“You heard me, baby. Reply the text straight away.”
Letting out a deep breath, Gabriel replied the text. “What’s next mum?”
“God, that all. You’ve done your part, full stop. Go read around the duties of a customer care manager and leave Him with the rest.”

On getting to the venue three days after, he realized that he was the only interviewee not gorgeously dressed. Seeing the multitude that showed up for the interview, his heart began to race. Not long after he sat down, a lass walked up to him.

“Please, can I help you?”
“I came for the interview.”
“Are you sure? You’re not putting on a suit,” she asked.

Shocked by the question, “I don’t have one,” he managed to say.

“Hmmm, let’s hope you don’t get turned back by the panelists,” she said wearing a sardonic smile. Gabriel’s frustrations grew worst but then his mother’s faith in him was quite comforting. Looking through the crowd, his eyes met with those of a lad who approached him. Taking a seat next to him, “did you come with a letter?”

“What letter?”

“A note from an influential person; a politician, governor or minister to support your candidacy?”

“I don’t know any.”

“That’s rather strange; you don’t come for such interviews without a letter from the crème de la crème.”

Just as fear was going to envelop his heart, he remembered his mother’s words, God keeps away flies from the tailless cow.
Observing the file that the young man held in his hand, “what did you bring with you?”
Opening his folder, “I came with the best of everything I could lay my hands on. My masters degree certificate, PhD certificate; scholarship award certificates and those of the volunteering and short courses I have undertaken. Lastly, a letter from a senator who happens to be a family friend.”

On hearing that, Gabriel excused himself and went to the gents. Staring at his image in the mirror, he held his thin file against his chest. Remembering the Lord’s words, he whispered a word of prayer daring to trust in His everlasting arms.

“Gabriel Matthews,” a clerk came out to call. On entering the room, Gabriel found a set of mean looking men and women that formed the panel.

“Take your seat, please,” a lady asked him looking through a set of thick bottles hanging loose over her eyes. After the introduction, she threw in the first question. Gabriel was white, not sure where in the world to find the answers. The second question did not leave him any better. Next, the panelists began to laugh, “are you here for the interview?”

Pulling him together after being knocked off, he managed to nod, “yes.”
As their eyeballs searched his body length, he was reminded that they were checking out on his dressing. “Weren’t you thought to borrow or steal or buy a cheap suit and tie when going for an interview?”
Not sure he knew what next to do, “excuse me Sirs and Mas, can I ask for a 5 minutes break?”
“Why?”

“I want to have a short prayer.”
On hearing that, they bursted to laughter. “You think that would help? You should have fasted for forty days and nights before coming but anywhere, permission granted.”

Gabriel hurried to the gents again and staring at himself in the mirror, he wept. Perceiving that an explanation for his red eyes could be demanded, he quickly washed his face and brought out from his pocket, a Gideon bible, searching the psalms. The young lion do lack and suffer hunger but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.

Closing it, he whispered a word of prayer and returned to the room. On seeing him, the panelists resumed their laughter but just as they were going to throw him another question, an elderly man walked in.
“Hello everyone,” he greeted as he took his seat. “I’m sorry for joining this late. I had lots of things to sort out at home.”
“It’s ok sir,” the panelists echoed; a gesture that made Gabriel suspect he probably was the CEO of the company.
“How many persons have been interviewed already?”
“Six, sir.”
“That’s fine. Guess what? Barca caned Bayer Leverkusen yesterday. I’m so happy.”
“Boss, you and football,” a male panelist teased him.
“Oh, what’s life without the game,” the CEO replied laughing. “I’m sure this gentleman is a Barca fan, ain’t you?” He asked looking at Gabriel. Responding to the question, Gabriel nodded.
“I knew it. So how many goals did Lionel Messi score?”
“Five.”
“Brilliant, you must be smart. These are the kind of persons we need in this company. You can go now,” he told Gabriel who left the room not sure if he was in a trance.
Two days later, Gabriel received a text asking him to resume work in 2 weeks time. Reading the message, he ran to show his mother who on reading for herself embraced him.

“Mum, I can’t believe this. What’s the place of football in a customer care manager’s interview?”
“Baby, God doesn’t look far nor does he use strange things to bless us rather, he uses what we already have or know to give us what we want. If he could make an ass speak so as to save Balaam’s life, how much more using football. It can be that simple when God is in it.”

A message from above

I never thought I would be writing about a trip to the convenient store, but this trip was like no other. It seemed like a typical November day, two years ago, as I walked out of Walgreens. It was just a month after my grandmother had passed away and I spent my days running useless errands hoping to fill the void in my heart and distract me from the pain.

As I attempted to walk out of the store, I was frustrated by everything that was going on around me which was a very common feeling during this time. I was angry because I couldn’t even remember what I went there to buy so I ended up spending over $20 on nonsense just to waste time and money, both of which I didn’t have.

I was mad and confused at everyone. Especially, the young girl walking through the store holding her grandmother’s hand. The little girl was begging her grandmother for ice cream just like I use to when I was little, before I was old enough to know that there are bigger problems than a lack of sugar. There is heartache and pain in this world. Before I was old enough to understand that one day my grandmother wouldn’t be here with me. “Here is $20 my sweetie,” the woman said, “Keep it for later and well get you some Mr. Softy.”

As I carried on, I remembered all of the times my cousins and I would play outside of my grandma’s house, waiting patiently to hear the sounds of the Mr. Softy truck. The minute we heard it, no matter how far it may have been, we would run inside smothering my grandma with hugs and kisses while begging for some money. No matter how many times she would say, “Remember kids, no ice cream today,” everyday we would ask and every time she would always end up giving each of us exactly $20. Obviously, we all know that ice cream doesn’t cost this much, but that was my grandma, always giving more than she ever had to give.
Who knew that I, an 18 year old, could be jealous of a three-year-old little girl wearing pink slippers and a Dora the Explorer backpack, but I was, because at the end of the day she had something I didn’t have anymore. A grandmother by her side.

I had to force myself to ignore the little girl who others kept calling “cute” and “adorable” when I simply thought she was nothing but obnoxious. She was just too happy for me and that was unacceptable, at this time, in my world.

I continued to the register to pay for my things, none of which I even remembered picking until I placed them on the counter. It was than that my anger quickly shifted from the little girl who seemed to have everything to the cashier who didn’t have anything, not even my change. She had to bring my things to another register which just felt like a waste of time. Everything felt like a waste of my time. When the cashier gave me my change I didn’t say thank you. I didn’t say have a good day. I simply took my change and left.

Feeling exhausted and hopeless, I began walking to my car. Every step seemed draining, and every step was another to survive. As I looked up into the sky I thought about how my grandmother had left me, and my anger began to return. I was outraged by the loss, and my belief in God was beginning to diminish. I couldn’t understand why these things happened. So as I stood in a public parking lot a million questions formed in my mind. Why did this happen to me? Aren’t we supposed to get signs from the people that pass on? Why did I not feel her presence anymore? Is there a heaven?

Suddenly, a woman driving right by my side rolled down her window and distracted my unanswered thoughts. “Excuse me, excuse me, excuse me,” she said loudly. Thinking she was going to ask for my parking spot, I simply pointed to my car. The thought of having to verbalize where my car was seemed like too much to bear. “No, excuse me,” she said again. At this point, I felt I had no choice but to see what this annoying lady wanted. As I got closer though I was startled-was this my grandmother’s nurse, Adu, who lived with her during her final months? I soon realized that she wasn’t, although the resemblance was uncanny. Then, I realized that this Adu look a like was searching for something in her bag. Surprisingly, I was overcome by a sense a relief that lead me to be patient the entire time the lady was searching. Others would be nervous by a stranger reaching in their bag unanimously, but I wasn’t. Under a clutter of makeup, money, pens, and other belongings, she finally reached to the very bottom of her bag and handed me a three page booklet. “It looks like you need this,” she said calmly with a warm smile on her face.

I looked down at the mysterious and obviously used pamphlet and on the front cover in big bold letters read “What Hope for Dead Loved Ones?”

It took me only a few seconds to comprehend the exchange with this woman, but by the time I looked up, she was gone.

I walked slowly into my car gripping the tiny little book that was given to me with fear that it would fly away in the wind. I didn’t know what it was exactly, but I knew that if my grandmother had anything to do with this that I didn’t want to let it go.

I felt a sense of relaxation as I opened the first page. It explained how people pass on, but their spirit remains with us. This was the first time since my grandma had passed that I felt her with me, just like I had wanted. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but I did know that I finally felt happiness from the surprising change in events.

I couldn’t, and still can’t, believe what had happened to me on that day. I don’t remember the specific details that you usually hear about like what the person was wearing, the time of day, or even the weather, but it doesn’t matter. It was a random day in November when my life turned back around and I began to feel hope again. It was real. It was a miracle. And, I’ll remember it for the rest of my life.

That little girl

Have you ever not wanted to do something so badly that you would rather die than go? Well that’s how I felt about joining Madcaps and volunteering at Saint Vincent De Paul Homeless shelter.
But now I believe that you should have an open mind to things because in the end you might just end up enjoying it.

“It’s a waste of time”, I said when my mom told I had to join Madcaps, a mothers and daughters club assisting philanthropies, and then when she told me I had to volunteer at a homeless shelter I thought this just could not get worse.

We got there late, of course, and walked to the dirty homeless shelter, where we saw a lady yelling at the security guard. He dealt with her and then lead us to the kitchen where we ran into my five fellow Madcaps class of 2017 mothers and daughters. Since I’m usually so socially awkward I had met only one person at the pool party, earlier this year. I looked around for her but she was not there. Damn, I was alone!
When the head of the kitchen came out and asked for 3 mothers to work outside the kitchen to clean up the plates and silverware, my mom just so happened to volunteer, leaving me to serve food with people I had never met before.

Soon the homeless families started to walk in and a little girl, around 5 years old, walked up and pointed to the food I was handing out. I handed her the cold sandwich, wrapped in the sticky plastic, she nodded in a form of saying thanks, and then walked to join her family at the large table.

As she walked away I thought of how much I had. I get to go to one of the top schools in San Diego, I have a great house by the water, and I have a warm meal every night. Then I thought of how little she had. She probably didn’t go to school, and this is where she sleeps and eats every day. It took that little girl to make me realize just how lucky I am.

After that moment I had a change of heart. Now, I love Madcaps and don’t miss one meeting, I have gotten over being socially awkward and now have many friends, who I hang out with on a regular basis. And this year I am sure I will do more than the required 20 hours of philanthropies.

I believe that if you have an open mind about things you can learn a lot about yourself and the people in your community, you can make new friends and realize just how lucky you are. I believe that if you have an open mind to things you can accomplish more and become a better rounded person. I believe you can make a difference just by doing one thing you don’t want to do.

A box of kisses - Short Story

Some time ago, a man punished his 3-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Money was tight and he became infuriated when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree.
Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, “This is for you, Daddy.”

He was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found the box was empty.

He yelled at her, “Don’t you know that when you give someone a present, there’s supposed to be something inside it?”

The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said,”Oh, Daddy, it is not empty. I blew kisses into the box. All for you, Daddy.”

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl, and he begged for her forgiveness.
It is told that the man kept that gold box by his bed for years and whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.
In a very real sense, each of us as humans have been given a gold container filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children, friends, family and God. There is no more precious possession anyone could hold.

How Poor We Are

One day, a father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, “How was the trip?”
“It was great, Dad.”

“Did you see how poor people live?” the father asked.
“Oh yeah,” said the son.
“So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?” asked the father.

The son answered, “I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden, and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden, and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard, and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on, and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us; they have friends to protect them.”
The boy’s father was speechless.
Then his son added, “Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are.”

A dish of ice cream - don’t judge the book by its cover

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.
“How much is an ice cream sundae?”
“50 cents,” replied the waitress.
The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied a number of coins in it.
“How much is a dish of plain ice cream?” he inquired. Some people were now waiting for a table and the waitress was a bit impatient.
“35 cents,” she said brusquely.
The little boy again counted the coins. “I’ll have the plain ice cream,” he said.
The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and departed.
When the waitress came back, she began wiping down the table and then swallowed hard at what she saw.
There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were 15 cents – her tip.

Military: A beautiful true love story

One day, a young guy and a young girl fell in love.
But the guy came from a poor family. The girl’s parents weren’t too happy.
So the young man decided not only to court the girl but to court her parents as well. In time, the parents saw that he was a good man and was worthy of their daughter’s hand.
But there was another problem: The man was a soldier. Soon, war broke out and he was being sent overseas for a year. The week before he left, the man knelt on his knee and asked his lady love, “Will you marry me?” She wiped a tear, said yes, and they were engaged. They agreed that when he got back in one year, they would get married.
But tragedy struck. A few days after he left, the girl had a major vehicular accident. It was a head-on collision.
When she woke up in the hospital, she saw her father and mother crying. Immediately, she knew there was something wrong.
She later found out that she suffered brain injury. The part of her brain that controlled her face muscles was damaged. Her once lovely face was now disfigured. She cried as she saw herself in the mirror. “Yesterday, I was beautiful. Today, I’m a monster.” Her body was also covered with so many ugly wounds.
Right there and then, she decided to release her fiancé from their promise. She knew he wouldn’t want her anymore. She would forget about him and never see him again.
For one year, the soldier wrote many letters—but she wouldn’t answer. He phoned her many times but she wouldn’t return her calls.
But after one year, the mother walked into her room and announced, “He’s back from the war.”
The girl shouted, “No! Please don’t tell him about me. Don’t tell him I’m here!”
The mother said, “He’s getting married,” and handed her a wedding invitation.
The girl’s heart sank. She knew she still loved him—but she had to forget him now.
With great sadness, she opened the wedding invitation.
And then she saw her name on it!
Confused, she asked, “What is this?”
That was when the young man entered her room with a bouquet of flowers. He knelt beside her and asked, “Will you marry me?”
The girl covered her face with her hands and said, “I’m ugly!”
The man said, “Without your permission, your mother sent me your photos. When I saw your photos, I realized that nothing has changed. You’re still the person I fell in love. You’re still as beautiful as ever. Because I love you!”

True story: real winners don’t give up!

This is a true story of a young woman who went through the most gruesome fire. When you read her story, you’ll realize that your trials are absolutely nothing compared to what this young girl went through.
It was September 25, 2000. Maricel Apatan was an 11-year old girl in Zamboanga. On that day, this little girl went with her uncle to draw water.
Along the way, four men met them. They were carrying long knives. They told her uncle to face down on the ground, and they hacked him on the neck and killed him.
Maricel was in total shock, especially that the men were their neighbors. She tried to escape, but the men ran after her.
She cried, “Kuya, ‘wag po, ‘wag n’yo akong tagain! Maawa po kayo sa akin!” (“Don’t kill me! Have mercy on me!”)
But they weren’t listening. With a long knife, a man slashed her on the neck too.
Maricel fell to the ground and lost consciousness.
When she woke up, she saw a lot of blood. She also saw the feet of the men around her, but she pretended to be dead.
When they walked away, Maricel ran back home. But along the way, she saw that both her hands were falling off. Because the men hacked them too. She cried but she kept running.
Sometimes, she would faint and fall to the ground. But she’d regain consciousness and run again.
When she was near her home, Maricel called her mother.
Upon seeing her daughter, her mother screamed in terror. She wrapped her bloodied child in a blanket and carried her to the hospital.
Here was the problem: From her house to the highway, it was a 12-kilometer walk. It took them 4 hours just to reach the highway.
When they arrived in the hospital, the doctors thought Maricel was going to die. But for 5 hours, they operated on her. It took 25 stitches to stitch together the long knife wound in her neck and back.
Maricel barely survived. And she lost both of her hands.
Ironically, the next day was Maricel’s birthday. She was 12 years old.
But tragedy didn’t end there. When they went home, they saw their home was gone. It was ransacked and burned down by the goons.
Being very poor, Maricel’s family also didn’t have P50,000 for their hospital bills.
But God sent many angels along the way to help them.
Archbishop Antonio Ledesma, a distant relative, paid for hospital bills and helped them bring the criminals to court. They were sentenced to prison.
Today, she’s staying with the nuns at Regina Rosarii with Sr. Eppie Brasil, O.P.
But this is the incredible miracle. Instead of staying down, Maricel kept running.
Instead of cursing God why she had no hands, she now uses her wrists in incredible ways that will boggle your mind.
Maricel was cited as the most industrious, best in computer, and most courteous in the School for Crippled Children.
In 2008, she graduated from a course in Hotel and Restaurant Management. She even received a Gold medal for Arts and Crafts.
In 2011, she finished her education to be a chef. Yes, a Chef without hands.
Nothing can stop this young lady from reaching her dreams.

The paradox of our time

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it less. We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgement; more experts, yet more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom and hate too often.
We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life, not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor. We’ve conquered outer space, but not inner space. We’ve done larger things, but not better things. We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve split the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion; big men, and small character; steep profits, and shallow relationships. These are days of two incomes, but more divorce; fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the show window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.
Remember, spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.
Remember to say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.
Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
By Dr. Bob Moorehead

Value and invest in yourself

Imagine that a Genie offers you any car in the world. The catch is that it is the only car you will ever own. What would you do?
You would read the manual ten times, change the oil twice as often as required, and you would take fastidious care so that that car remained the car of your dreams forever.
Think about what this tells you about your body.
You get only one mind and one body–the same ones you will have at 20, 40, 60, etc.
Take care of them and maximize their potential. It will be too late to take care of your body and mind (and car) later on. You can maintain them, but it is hard or impossible to undo big mistakes or negligence later on. You do not want to end up with a wreck on your hands.

Your main asset in life is yourself.
Treat yourself as a valuable asset. I often explain to students that I would be willing to pay today for a percentage of the future earnings of good students.
If you value yourself, and invest in yourself, you will be worth a great deal through out your lifetime, both to yourself and to your community.

____________________________________________________________________________

If you are into financial investment, you’re probably very familiar with Mr. Warren Buffet (1951–present). He is the most successful investor in the world. His investment strategies are legendary and many people seek to learn after him.
Even more respectable, he pledged to give away 99% of his wealth (more than $30 billions at the time of the pledge in 2006) to non-profit foundations, mostly to Bill Gate’s Foundation.
Mr. Buffet often travels to universities to give speeches to educate and motivate students. Here is one of his speeches to teach us the value of our body, to invest in ourselves, in education for a great future.

Success depends upon maturity!

Maturity is many things. It is the ability to base a judgment on the big picture, the long haul.
It means being able to resist the urge for immediate gratification and opt for the course of action that will pay off later.
One of the characteristics of the young is “I want it now.”
Grown-up people can wait.
Maturity is perseverance–the ability to sweat out a project or a situation, in spite of heavy opposition and discouraging setbacks, and stick with it until it is finished.
The adult who is constantly changing friends and changing mates is immature. He/she cannot stick it out because he/she has not grown up.

Maturity is the ability to control anger and settle differences without violence or destruction. The mature person can face unpleasantness, frustration, discomfort and defeat without collapsing or complaining. He/she knows he cannot have everything his/her own way every time. He/she is able to defer to circumstances, to other people-and to time. He/she knows when to compromise and is not too proud to do so.
Maturity is humility. It is being big enough to say, “I was wrong.” And, when he/she is right, the mature person need not experience the satisfaction of saying, “I told you so.”

Maturity is the ability to live up to your responsibilities, and this means being dependable. It means keeping your word. Dependability is the hallmark of integrity. Do you mean what you say-and do you say what you mean? Unfortunately, the world is filled with people who cannot be counted on. When you need them most, they are among the missing. They never seem to come through in the clutches. They break promises and substitute alibis for performance. They show up late or not at all. They are confused and disorganized. Their lives are a chaotic maze of broken promises, former friends, unfinished business and good intentions that somehow never materialize. They are always a day late and a dollar short.

Maturity is the ability to make a decision and stand by it. Immature people spend their lives exploring endless possibilities and then doing nothing. Action requires courage. Without courage, little is accomplished.
Maturity is the ability to harness your abilities and your energies and do more than is expected. The mature person refuses to settle for mediocrity. He/she would rather aim high and miss the mark than low-and make it.
Maturity is the art of living in peace with that which cannot be changed, the courage to change that which should be changed, no matter what it takes, and the wisdom to know the difference.

The power of encouragement

A really nice story reminding us not to give up too early.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the famous 19th-century poet and artist, was once approached by an elderly man.
The old fellow had some sketches and drawings that he wanted Rossetti to look at and tell him if they were any good, or if they at least showed potential talent.
Rossetti looked over them carefully. After the first few, he knew that they were worthless but Rossetti was a kind man, he told the elderly man as gently as possible that the pictures were without much value and showed little talent. He was sorry, but he could not lie to the man. The man was disappointed, but seemed to expect Rossetti’s judgment
The old man then apologized for taking up Rossetti’s time, but asked him to look at a few more drawings.
Rossetti looked over the second batch of sketches and immediately became enthusiastic over the talent they revealed. “These,” he said, “oh, these are good.”
“This young student has a great talent. He should be given every help and encouragement. He has a great future.”
Rossetti could see that the old fellow was deeply moved.
“Who is this fine young artist?” he asked. ”Your son?”
“No,” said the old man sadly.
“It is me  - 40 years ago. If only I had heard your praise then! For you see, I got discouraged and gave up – too soon.”

Improving self confidence

Are you the type of person who easily get influenced by negative advices? Follow this short self confidence lesson…

When Henry Ward Beecher was a young boy in school, he learned a lesson in self confidence which he never forgot.
He was called upon to recite in front of the class. He had hardly begun when the teacher interrupted with an emphatic, “No!” He started over and again the teacher thundered, “No!” Humiliated, Henry sat down.
The next boy rose to recite and had just begun when the teacher shouted, “No!” This student, however, kept on with the recitation until he completed it. As he sat down, the teacher replied, “Very good!”
Henry was irritated. ”I recited just as he did,” he complained to the teacher.
But the instructor replied, “It is not enough to know your lesson, you must be sure. When you allowed me to stop you, it meant that you were uncertain. If the world says, ‘No!’ it is your business to say, ‘Yes!’ and prove it.

The world will say, ‘No!’ in a thousand ways.
‘No! You can’t do that.’
‘No! You are wrong.’
‘No! You are too old.’
‘No! You are too young.’
‘No! You are too weak.’
‘No! It will never work.’
‘No! You don’t have the education.’
‘No! You don’t have the background.’
‘No! You don’t have the money.’
‘No! It can’t be done.’
And each ‘No!’ you hear has the potential to erode your confidence bit by bit until you quit all together.
Though the world says, ‘No!’ to you today, you should be determined to say, ‘Yes!’ and prove it! ”

The black dot

A small town chamber of commerce invited a speaker to address its annual dinner. The community’s economy was bad, people were discouraged, and they wanted this motivational speaker to give them a boost.
During her presentation, the speaker took a large piece of white paper and made a small black dot in the centre of it with a marking pen. Then she held the paper up before the group and ask them what they saw.
One person quickly replied, “I see a black dot.”
“Okay, what else do you see?”
Others joined in agreement : “A black dot.”
“Don’t you see anything besides the dot?” she asked.
A resounding “No” came from the audience.
“What about the sheet of paper?” asked the speaker. “I am sure you have all seen it”, she said, “But you have chosen to overlook it.”
“In life, we also tend to overlook and take for granted many wonderful things that we have or happen around us and focus our attention and energy on small, dotlike failures and disappointments. The so called ‘problems’ that we have are usually like the black dot on the paper. They are small and insignificant if we can widen our horizon and look at the whole picture.”
Are you one of the person who focus your attention and energy on dot-like problems?

Creative Thinking – What Is It? And How Can You Start Doing It Now!

When you see the phrase “creative thinking” what’s the first thing that springs to mind?
For many it would be the term “thinking outside the box”
I’m here to tell you that when it comes to creative thinking “thinking outside the box” is the worse possible thing you can do!
Many aspire to be good at it, there are countless articles and books about it but few really know what creative thinking actually is.
Which is kind of odd because most of us do it on a daily basis, (even if we don’t realize it.)
I’m going to give you a definition that will actually make you more creative!
Ready?
Creative thinking is exactly the same as the telling a joke.
When you tell a joke you link a number of things together in an original way and at the end of that connection you get a laugh (hopefully).
When you think creatively you make connections between things and generate new ideas (new for you.)
Why does knowing this definition make you more creative?
Awareness of connections leads to more connections which leads to more connections and so on. We all know someone who has a reputation as an ideas guy. They have simply conditioned their brain, usually without realising it, to consistently make new intelligent connections.
Note the word intelligent!
For your creative thinking to have any real value it needs to be suitable to the context in which you are doing your creative thinking. That context is the box in which you think.
Think inside the box not out of it and your ideas will be far more useful.
Let’s look at some simple but powerful techniques you can use to condition your brain to start being more creative.
The most powerful way I know is one we use every day.
Questions!
Asking a question sends a signal to the brain that forces it to start looking to make new connections. The important factor is the quality of your questions!
  • Are they intelligent?
  • Are they suitable to your context?
  • Are they positive questions rather than negative ones?
Questions I have started to ask myself every day:
  • How can I add value to this?
  • How can I extract something of value from my day?
  • What can I glean from the few remaining hours?
By asking these questions and acting on the answers that come to mind I have  gained a lot more satisfaction and gratitude in my life (I’ve also achieved a lot more!) Start looking at the questions you ask yourself. Are they allowing your brain to make positive and most importantly useful connections?
Something else to think about is the material you are providing your brain with.
Reading
The brain is a connection making and pattern finding machine but on a daily basis most of the connections we make are ones we have made before. Reading is a really good way to make new connections. If you generally read horror fiction then read a science fiction novel. If you generally read fiction read non-fiction. The material you will feed your brain will allow it to form new connections. Read something different today.
Emotional State
Your creativity levels are connected to your emotional and physical states. Its far easier to be creative when you’re in a positive mood. Interestingly enough when you are being creative you tend to find you are happier than when you started – the two feed each other. Become aware of your emotional state – change it with positive questions and make new positive connections that will add value to your life and the life of others.

These three are things you can start doing right away.  Focus on the one that is easiest for you and practice it on a daily base with a view to creative thinking. Watch your creativity grow!

The secret of success! from Socrates....

A young man asked Socrates, an ancient Greek philosopher, the secret of Success. Socrates told the young man to meet him near the river the next morning. They met.
Socrates asked the young man to walk with him toward the river.
When the water got up to their necks, Socrates took the young man by surprise and ducked him into the water. The man struggled to get out but Socrates was strong and kept him under water until he started turning blue.
The young man struggled hard and finally managed to get up. The first thing he did was to gasp and take a deep breath.
Socrates asked, “What did you want the most when you were under the water?”
The man replied “Air”.
Socrates said: “That’s the most secret to success. When you want success as badly as you want air, you will get it. There is no other secret”.

Reflection:
A burning desire is the starting point of all accomplishments. Just like a small fire cannot give much heat, a weak desire cannot produce great results…

More about Socrates:
Socrates is a famous ancient Greek philosopher. He was born in Athens in 469 BC and was killed (by poison) in 399 BC (about 71 years old) because the government didn’t agree with his teaching. Socrates is widely credited for laying the foundation for Western philosophy

Importance of The Seed of Honesty in Your Life

A successful business man was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business.
Instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together.
He said, “It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you.”
The young executives were shocked, but the boss continued. “I am going to give each one of you a SEED today – one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO.”
One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed.
Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow.
Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing. By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn’t have a plant and he felt like a failure.
Six months went by — still nothing in Jim’s pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim didn’t say anything to his colleagues, however… He just kept watering and fertilizing the soil – He so wanted the seed to grow.
A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection.
Jim told his wife that he wasn’t going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Jim felt sick to his stomach, it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife was right.
He took his empty pot to the board room. When Jim arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful — in all shapes and sizes.
Jim put his empty pot on the floor and many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him!
When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives.
Jim just tried to hide in the back. “My, what great plants, trees, and flowers you have grown,” said the CEO. “Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!”
All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the Financial Director to bring him to the front.
Jim was terrified. He thought, “The CEO knows I’m a failure! Maybe he will have me fired!”
When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed – Jim told him the story.
The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim, and then announced to the young executives, “Behold your next Chief Executive Officer! His name is Jim!”
Jim couldn’t believe it. Jim couldn’t even grow his seed.
“How could he be the new CEO?” the others said.
Then the CEO said, “One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead – it was not possible for them to grow. All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Jim was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new Chief Executive Officer!”
* If you plant honesty, you will reap trust.
* If you plant goodness, you will reap friends.

* If you plant humility, you will reap greatness.

* If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment.

* If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective.

* If you plant hard work, you will reap success.

* If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation.

* If you plant faith in God , you will reap a harvest.
So, be careful what you plant now; it will determine what you will reap later..

Mean People Suck (Your Energy) – How to Protect Yourself from Toxic People

Toxic. We all know the word and many of us use it to define substances that may harm us if we are exposed. What about the individuals who have a negative impact on others? They are perhaps one of the most toxic substances because they enter into our lives under the guise of friendship.
Do you allow toxic people into your life?
Toxic friends are those who drain you of your energy, are unsupportive and most importantly unequal in the shared friendship energy. As women, we adhere to an unwritten code that tells us we must be loyal to a friend. Through thick and thin, no matter what occurs.
Most women admit that even when a friendship is draining their energy and sabotaging their own integrity and self-esteem, that they should remain loyal to the friendship. We are certainly told in regard to all other relationships to set boundaries, and to not tolerate relationships that are unhealthy. Yet, why do we continue and so often encourage the toxic friend to remain in our life?
Why do we feel this way? We safeguard ourselves from toxic chemicals, toxic food additives and toxic waste. Yet, many of us do not know where to begin to manage and safeguard ourselves from the emotional and often physical stress that results from a relationship with a toxic individual.
When someone shows you who they really, believe them the very first time ~Maya Angelo
The most important (and often most difficult) step to take is to identify a toxic person. People will show you who they really are right away, but often we make the mistake of compensating for the red flags that warn us of their toxic personality by justifying their unacceptable behavior.

The Personality Traits of a Toxic Friend

Self-Involved – The friend who can’t see past their own world. Think of the playgroup mom who never asks you how you are. In fact, after hours of many conversations, you realize you know every detail of every crisis in her life and yet, she doesn’t know a thing about you. Typically, she is a victim of all that happens in her life, and takes no responsibility for her actions, including the fact that you can’t get a word in edgewise.
Demanding – The friend who expects much and gives little to the friendship. You know who I am speaking of. She is the friend who cannot imagine why you would not help her with a task when you have a fever of a 104. She is demanding of your time, your help and your emotional energy. Yet, she often never offers you any support or reciprocated energy.
Needy – Do you have a friend who calls you at all hours of the day to complain and vent about her life to you? She constantly seeks your advice, but never takes action on the things you discuss? She needs constant attention and becomes angry and weepy when you are not immediately available to her. Her demands exhaust you mentally and emotionally.
Unsupportive – The unsupportive friend who will never make rude or demeaning statements directly, but there is always an undertone of hostility. She is the stereotypical passive aggressive personality and any step you take towards success is viewed as a threat. She may say things like, “Yes, you did really well. Thank goodness you had my help.” She may want you to be happy and successful as long as she is more happy or successful. She must win at all costs.
How to Protect Yourself from Toxic People
Do you recognize any of the toxic red flags above in your friendships or people you know? Are you allowing toxic in your life? If so, there are steps you can take to complete a HAZMAT sweep of your world.
Recognize – Watch for the toxic personality red flags outlined above and observe how that behavior is impacting you.
Step Back – As with any toxic chemical, you must first limit your exposure to this person to prevent toxic side effects. Use this time to gain clarity and release yourself from any guilt or fear you may have of hurting the person’s feelings. Engaging with a toxic person adds stress to your life and damages your self-esteem. You must stop giving of your time and self to a person who brings no value to you. It is time to put you first.
Set Boundaries – Now that you have identified the toxic people relationships in your life, it is time to set serious boundaries. If the relationship is casual, changing behavior with boundary setting will be easier then it will be in a long-standing friendship.
Train and Reinforce – It’s important to realize that you are responsible for reinforcing and basically training people to treat you. Use the open-ended sentences below establish boundaries and begin the training process:
Example conversation with the playgroup mom…
When you…talk to me so much during playgroup about your personal issues
I feel…unable to observe and enjoy watching our children play.
If you continue to…discuss such personal issues with me
I will…need to sit at another table.
Be clear and firm about your expectations and then be consistent. If you set the boundary by stating the above to the playgroup mom, and still engage her by listening to her drama, you will teach her that it is okay to dismiss your request.

Letting Go of Toxic Relationships and Replacing with Healthy Ones

Remember, the toxic person is needy and attention seeking. When she shows you who she is, believe her. Set boundaries with the toxic friend in all areas that are affecting your life. For example, where you feel the friendship is lacking and what you need from her if the friendship is going to continue.
I say IF because if after you set boundaries and express what you need from her and her toxic behavior continues, you may need to take a break from the friendship to gain clarity. If nothing seems to change the relationship for the better, as much as it’s a difficult decision, you may need to make that break permanent.
Surround yourself with people who give you that special power that only the healthiest of relationships provide – ones where you feel uplifted, supported, encouraged and the energy is equal. It is time to respect and value yourself by setting boundaries with how you are treated and who you share your valuable time with.
In doing so, you will become more confident in the future and able to easily identify the toxic person when they show you who they are the very first time. You will no longer attract individuals who are toxic at all and you will clear your life of any unhealthy relationships you are currently in leaving more room for healthy people to enter your life.
Remember, when toxic tries to walk right into your world again, say this: “Back off toxic, I embrace my power.”

R.I.P English

What goes around comes around!

One day a man saw an old lady, stranded on the side of the road, but even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pontiac was still sputtering when he approached her.

Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her? He didn’t look safe; he looked poor and hungry. He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how she felt. It was those chills which only fear can put in you. He said, “I’m here to help you, ma’am. Why don’t you wait in the car where it’s warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson.”

Well, all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. Bryan crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack, skinning his knuckles a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt.

As he was tightening up the lug nuts, she rolled down the window and began to talk to him. She told him that she was from St. Louis and was only just passing through. She couldn’t thank him enough for coming to her aid.

Bryan just smiled as he closed her trunk. The lady asked how much she owed him. Any amount would have been all right with her. She already imagined all the awful things that could have happened had he not stopped. Bryan never thought twice about being paid. This was not a job to him. This was helping someone in need, and God knows there were plenty, who had given him a hand in the past. He had lived his whole life that way, and it never occurred to him to act any other way.

He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance they needed, and Bryan added, “And think of me.”
He waited until she started her car and drove off. It had been a cold and depressing day, but he felt good as he headed for home, disappearing into the twilight.

A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went in to grab a bite to eat, and take the chill off before she made the last leg of her trip home. It was a dingy looking restaurant. Outside were two old gas pumps. The whole scene was unfamiliar to her. The waitress came over and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. She had a sweet smile, one that even being on her feet for the whole day couldn’t erase. The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant, but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. The old lady wondered how someone who had so little could be so giving to a stranger. Then she remembered Bryan.

After the lady finished her meal, she paid with a hundred dollar bill. The waitress quickly went to get change for her hundred dollar bill, but the old lady had slipped right out the door. She was gone by the time the waitress came back. The waitress wondered where the lady could be. Then she noticed something written on the napkin.

There were tears in her eyes when she read what the lady wrote:
“You don’t owe me anything. I have been there too. Somebody once helped me out, the way I’m helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do: Do not let this chain of love end with you.”

Under the napkin were four more $100 bills.
Well, there were tables to clear, sugar bowls to fill, and people to serve, but the waitress made it through another day. That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written. How could the lady have known how much she and her husband needed it? With the baby due next month, it was going to be hard….

She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to her, she gave him a soft kiss and whispered soft and low, “Everything’s going to be all right. I love you, Bryan Anderson.”
There is an old saying “What goes around comes around.”

Temper control- Moral Story

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the fence.
The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily, gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.
The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said “you have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one.”
You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound is still there.
Make sure you control your temper the next time you are tempted to say something you will regret later.

You are unique!

Think what a remarkable, unduplicatable, and miraculous thing it is to be you! Of all the people who have come and gone on the earth, since the beginning of time, not ONE of them is like YOU!
No one who has ever lived or is to come has had your combination of abilities, talents, appearance, friends, acquaintances, burdens, sorrows and opportunities.
No one’s hair grows exactly the way yours does. No one’s finger prints are like yours. No one has the same combination of secret inside jokes and family expressions that you know.
The few people who laugh at all the same things you do, don’t sneeze the way you do. No one prays about exactly the same concerns as you do. No one is loved by the same combination of people that love you – NO ONE!
No one before, no one to come. YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE!
Enjoy that uniqueness. You do not have to pretend in order to seem more like someone else. You weren’t meant to be like someone else. You do not have to lie to conceal the parts of you that are not like what you see in anyone else.
You were meant to be different. Nowhere ever in all of history will the same things be going on in anyone’s mind, soul and spirit as are going on in yours right now.
If you did not exist, there would be a hole in creation, a gap in history, something missing from the plan for humankind.
Treasure your uniqueness. It is a gift given only to you. Enjoy it and share it!
No one can reach out to others in the same way that you can. No one can speak your words. No one can convey your meanings. No one can comfort with your kind of comfort. No one can bring your kind of understanding to another person.
No one can be cheerful and lighthearted and joyous in your way. No one can smile your smile. No one else can bring the whole unique impact of you to another human being.
Share your uniqueness. Let it be free to flow out among your family and friends and people you meet in the rush and clutter of living wherever you are. That gift of yourself was given you to enjoy and share. Give yourself away!
See it! Receive it! Let it tickle you! Let it inform you and nudge you and inspire you! YOU ARE UNIQUE!

Dear Periods..... So True

How To Find Your Passion in Life

What if you could wake up every morning enthusiastic and overjoyed about the day ahead of you?
What if the underlying dread of “going to work each day” completely disappeared…and instead was replaced by an eager, overjoyed excitement to do what you do?
Believe it or not, for some people, this is the everyday reality: They jump out of bed, eager to begin their work day simply because they LOVE WHAT THEY DO.
But most people are still somewhat behind this trend. These are the ones who slug through the work week eager to find escape in their weekend plans and parties…Only to dread Monday as it inevitably creeps up on them. And it always does.
Don’t let this be you.
But how can you find that one activity or cause that you love and get rich from it? Where do you begin?
One way to discover your true passion is to ask yourself some questions. Here are 4 to get you started:
1 – What does the kid in you love? – When you were a child, what did you enjoy doing? What did you want to be when you grew up? What were you naturally good at? See if you can tap into your inner child to get to a truer, more pure version of yourself.
2 – What would you do for free? – What’s one thing that you’d eagerly do for free just because it gives you so much joy and meaning in life? If you’re willing to do something free, you’ll definitely have enough passion to drive you toward real success as you creatively monetize it.
3 – If I won the lottery, yet had to build my ideal business (not using any of the funds I won), what would I create? – What would you do if you had absolutely no financial pressure yet still had to contribute to society in a meaningful way that paid you? Or, for those who prefer to work for someone else: what would you do if you won the lottery but still had to go to work each day? Where would you work? You might be surprised at what you come up with.
4 – What does my dream life look like? – We all have a vision of what our ideal life would look like. And although every current moment is perfect as it is, we should certainly strive for a greater vision of life (this helps us grow personally, psychologically, spiritually, etc). So imagine it. What does your ideal life look like? Where do you work? What do you do each day? Where do you live? Try to answer these questions in a serious way, that’s how you’ll get the most out of it.
Some people might say, “Yea, that’s nice but I just want success, why bother with passion?”
The answer to that is: Truth be told, most people don’t find or experience success unless they’re doing what they’re really passionate about. Your passion is your purpose…it’s what you were CREATED to do in this lawfully-driven world! Plus, success is a holistic experience that includes money…but it’s more than money.
Success is the experience of being genuinely fulfilled, finding meaning in your daily activity, personally growing, contributing and of course generating excellent revenue from these contributions.
The key reason you need to start with what you’re passionate about before achieving genuine success is that nothing other than passion has the power to sustain, guide, and drive you when you face the many obstacles or “challenges” that you will. It’s passion that drives all outstanding success.
When you’re working in accordance with your passion, you’re in flow. Not just with yourself but with the universe as a whole. So go ahead and find yours today if you haven’t already!

Lessons We Can Learn From 10 Inspiring Songs of All Time

Songs and their lyrics evoke emotions. Inspiring songs perk us up when everything seems gloomy, remind us that we are beautiful no matter what others say, and motivate us when there seems to be no way out. Here are excerpts from the 10 best inspiring songs of all time and their key messages.

1.    ‘Beautiful’ by Christina Aguilera

“ I am beautiful
No matter what they say
Words can’t bring me down”
This song reminds you to see the beauty within yourself. Do not become obsessed with your imperfections, as they are your strength. Do not let other’s define who you are. Let what makes you special shine through.

2.      ‘The Climb’ by Miley Cyrus

“There’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
  The struggles I’m facing…
The chances I’m taking, Sometimes might knock me down,
  But no, I’m not breaking.”
The ability to achieve is one’s greatest asset. There will always be challenges along the way in life. No matter how difficult a journey is, it is worth seeing through to the end.

3.    ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy’ by Bobby McFerron

“Don’t worry, be happy
Listen to what I say, “In your life expect some trouble, but when you worry you make it double”
One of the best songs ever written to quell anxiety, McFerron wrote this song to help anyone take a moment, relax and join him in his happy feeling. Spending time worrying only causes more difficulty. Instead, just accept that good feeling you can illicit from how wonderful life is.

4.    ‘Power of Dreams’ by Celine Dion

“Deep within each heart
There lies a magic spark
That lights the fire of our imagination
And since the dawn of man
The strength of just “I can”
Has brought together people of all nations”
Deep within our hearts, we all have a dream. The only reason dreams are not realized is because you do not attempt to achieve them. Never undermine your ability and have full faith that if you believe you can do it, you will be able to turn your dreams into reality.

5.    ‘You Gotta Be’ by Des’ree

“You gotta be, you gotta be bad
You gotta be bold, you gotta be wiser
You gotta be hard, you gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm, you gotta stay together
All I know, all I know love will save the day”
While life is full of challenges and tribulations, take them as a challenge. Release your fears, stand up for what you believe for, do not be afraid to love or to tear. Love will guide us all to succeed and be a better person.

6.     ‘Fireworks’ by Katy Perry

“Cause baby, you’re a firework
Come on, show ‘em what you’re worth
Make ‘em go, oh, oh, oh
As you shoot across the sky”
This song reminds us to never undermine about abilities. If you ever feel downtrodden or lacking ambition in life, pick yourself up and show the rest what you are worth. Shine bright and achieve what you want. Because you are special and irreplaceable.

7.     ‘If Today Was Your Last Day’ by Nickelback

“Against the grain should be a way of life
What’s worth the price is always worth the fight
Every second counts ’cause there’s no second try
So live like you’re never living twice
Don’t take the free ride in your life”
Never take life for granted. Make every day count and never allow a moment to pass by without giving it meaning. Life is better lived with every moment being lived as if it was your last chance to make a difference.

8.    ‘What a Wonderful World’ by Louie Armstrong

“I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.”
The song is one of the most powerful and simple messages ever written. The message: to take notice of every bit of the magnitude to life’s amazing aspects. It is awe inspiring and worth appreciating in its every manifestation.

9.     ‘Only Time’ by Enya

“Who can say where the road goes
Where the day flows, only time
And who can say if your love grows
As your heart chose, only time
Who can say if your love grows
As your heart chose
Only time
And who can say where the road goes
Where the day flows, only time”
An enchanting piece that tells us that time brings forth all answers. While knowledge is imperfect, hindsight will help us piece together the answers. Faith in our future is important to keep our spirits high.

10.  Eye of the Tiger’ by Survivor

“Risin’ up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance
Now I’m back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive
So many times, it happens too fast
You trade your passion for glory
Don’t lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive”
Never give up and keep your spirits high to strive through any adversity or obstacle.
